Marching Foxes Commitment

2023 Marching Foxes Commitment Form – Staff/Parent/Student Expectations

Due: Friday, May 12, 2023

 

During the 2023-24 school year students will have the opportunity to participate in the Yorkville High School Marching Foxes.  The Marching Foxes exist as a volunteer marching band, meaning only students who wish to participate do so.  Every band student at YHS will be registered for a curricular concert ensemble which will meet during the day. Students who are in the Marching Foxes will attend rehearsals and performances that meet outside of the school day.  Similar to a fall sport, marching band is a commitment which primarily runs from August through October.  The YHS Marching Foxes membership is open to all YHS students and consists of mostly Band, Choir, and Orchestra students.

 

In order to maintain a successful marching band program it is essential for every participating student, teacher, and parent to commit to the activity. Please read the following expectations of the Marching Foxes before filling out the online commitment form.  Students who commit to the 2023 Marching Foxes will be making a full-season commitment through October.  Without a firm commitment from each student, it is impossible for us to design an effective show with proper drill, staging, and music.  Losing members partway through the season or over the summer has a negative visual & musical impact on every show thereafter.

 

Rehearsal Dates & Times

  • Student/Parent Meeting: June 5, 2023 (7:00 pm, YHS Large Group Instruction Room)

  • Mini-Camp: June 5-6, 2023 (4:00 – 6:30 pm)

  • Band Camp: August 8, 2023 (8:00 am – 12:00 pm), August 9-11, 2023 (8:00 am – 5:00 pm), August 12, 2023 (work day & uniform fitting 9:00 am – 1:00 pm), August 14-15, 2023 (8:00 am – 5:00 pm)

  • Daily After-School Rehearsal Beginning: Monday, August 21, 2022 (3:00 – 5:00 pm)

    • Daily rehearsal schedule includes every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday (except game days) from 3:00 – 5:00 pm

    • Color Guard have an additional sectional weekly on Tuesdays following rehearsal from 5-6:30p

  • Approximately seven Saturday commitments (practices and competitions)

 

Student Expectations 

  • Students will attend all rehearsals and performances.*

  • Students will work outside of rehearsal to prepare and memorize their music and drill.

  • Students will attend a weekly 30-minute student-led sectional. 

  • Students will come to every marching band event with a positive attitude, ready to work as part of a team. 

  • Students will work hard to maintain good grades in all classes.

  • Students will not drop out of marching band after signing this commitment form

*Absences must be excused 48 hours in advance. The directors understand that emergencies happen. In case of emergency, a note within 24 hours after the emergency is over will suffice. 

 

Parent/Guardian Expectations

  • Parents will assist in facilitating their students arriving at rehearsals and performances on time.

  • Parents will help attempt to keep their child’s schedule free of conflict from all rehearsals and performances.

  • Parents will help encourage their child to practice and memorize their music.

 

Staff Expectations

  • Staff will communicate pertinent information to students and parents in a timely manner.

  • Staff will arrive at every rehearsal well prepared and ready to be very productive.

  • Staff will provide clear and achievable expectations for the students.

  • Staff will work hard to make sure each student gets the help they need to be successful.  

  • Staff will devote many hours outside of rehearsal to instructional preparation, drill/music/color guard writing, student leader coordination, and administrative work.

Financial Commitment

  • All members will pay $80 for fees which includes: gloves, t-shirt, tailgating fee, ultimate drillbook app, and senior gifts.

  • If members need new marching shoes, it is an additional $40. (A limited number of used shoes are available for $5).
